In simple terms, Dominance and Recessiveness are ways to describe how copies or versions of genes for a trait (like height or hair color for example) get expressed in a person. For a person to have a dominant trait, they only need to get one copy of that gene version from one of his/her parents. A recessive version of the gene means a person needs to get a copy of that version from both the mum and dad.
